Abstract: - The natural dynamics of the population of the Eastern
Carpathian depressions. This study aims to analyze the natural dynamics of
the population from nine depressions of the Eastern Carpathian Mountains, which
totalize 144 administrative-territorial units. The demographic indicators
analysed were the birth rate, the mortality rate and the natural balance,
indicators calculated on the basis of the statistical data from the last
Romanian Census, that of 2011. Also, for the values obtained, we tried to
identify possible causes that led to the positive or negative evolution of the
indicators. In most of the depressions studied, there is a natural deficit, and
the mortality rate values are above the birth rate in most of the administrative
units. The biggest dysfunctions are in Oaşului Depression, Maramureş Depression,
Giurgeului Depression and Vama-Moldoviţa Depression. Natural surplus is specific
for most administrative-territorial units forming Ciucului Depression, Brașov
Depression and Întorsura Buzăului Depression.
Key-Words: natural dynamics, birth rate, mortality rate, natural balance, natural deficit, demographic risk phenomena
