Abstract. – Yearly variation and territorial distribution of Someşean
Plateau average rainfall. The study was developed based on data from two weather
stations (Cluj-Napoca and Dej) and 11 rainfall stations. Depending on the
distribution of average monthly precipitation amounts during the year we
distinguish a type, called Someşean, predominantly characterized by a peak in
June and a minimum in February. Depending on the occurrence of maxima and minima
during the year, we distinguish two subtypes, the North Someşean characterized
by a second maximum in December and a secondary minimum in October and the South
Someşean subtype with two variants. Seasonally, the highest amount of
precipitation falls in the summer, followed by those in spring, autumn and
winter. On semesters, the highest amounts are recorded in the summer.
Territorial distribution of precipitation during the year is determined by the
atmospheric circulation and the morphometric characteristics of the relief
(altitude, aspect).
