Abstract. The glacial landform of the Parâng Mountains (Southern
Carpathians). The glacial system manifested itself in the Parâng Mountains, as
well as in all the Southern Carpathians, during the last two Pleistocene glacial
phases. The traces of the glacial activity in the Parâng Mountains are
represented by: erosion forms (glacial cirques, valleys, thresholds, shoulders,
sheepback rocks, saddles etc.) and accumulation forms (moraines). The glacial
morphology of these mountains is relic today. There are two large glacial
complexes, located in the northern part of the massif (the Jieț and the Lotru
complexes). The glacial cirques of the Latoriţa basin and other small cirques
located on the southern slope of the Parâng Mountains are also considered.
Key-Words: Parâng Mountains, Pleistocene glacial system, relic glacial
morphology.
