Abstract: Identity landmarks in Bargau County. Bargau County, an old Romanian dwelling area, had a history rich in events that contributed to its shaping as one of the most individualised identities of the Transylvania area. After an analysis of the studies referring to this area, there are several identity elements specific to Bargau county–its belonging to the border regiment, Dracula mythical story, Colibita, Bargau mentality, Heniu massif or the Roman road. We have applied a questionnaire in this region in order to compare the identity elements mentioned in these studies to the ones the young people of Bargau experience. Thus we can observe the manner in which the structures that make up the territorial identity can modify their influence in time, and we can also put together a projection referring to the components that sustain Bargau idenity in the future, when the analysis target group reaches maturity. We notice that identity components mentioned as essential in literature and which are percieved as irrelevant by the young population (the belonging to the border regiment or Bargau mentality) tend to be replaced by others, such as the development of Colibita resort or the popularity of the Dracula mythical story.
