Abstract: - Demographic characteristics of small towns in Caraș-Severin County in the post-communist period (1992-2011). This study aims to highlight some of the demographic characteristics of small towns in Caraş-Severin County between 1992 and 2011 Censuses. Six small towns (under 25,000 inhabitants) were identified: Anina, Băile Herculane, Bocşa, Moldova Nouă, Oraviţa and Oţelu Roşu. The numerical evolution of the population, the natural dynamics and the migratory dynamics of this period are analysed, in parallel with the identification of the economic causes that led to the evolution or the involution of the analysed indicators values. Natural and migratory dynamics have recorded worrying values in small cities in Caraș-Severin County, with declining birth rates, along with an increase in mortality rates and a number of departures in 1992-2011 that exceeded the number of establishments. Therefore, a negative migration balance was added to the natural deficit, contributing to an ever-increasing demographic decline.

Key-words: demography, natural dynamics, migratory dynamics, small towns, post-communist period
