ABSTRACT. - The Relevance of Using Photographs in Geographical Research. As a part of qualitative research methods, the interpretation of visual imagery is a topic rarely discussed by researchers and poorly justified as an actual stand-alone method. Nowadays, especially in Geography, the main use of photographs is offering information and not obtaining it through their interpretation. The main disadvantages that come with this method and inhibits the researchers from using visual imagery (especially photographs, postcards, lithographs, etc.) in obtaining new informations, will be the focus of our paper, with arguments and examples through which our purpose is to increase the popularity of this method.

Keywords: geographical observation, visual imagery, interpretation, subjectivity, veracity
