Abstract:- In many cases in history the geopolitical position of Romania led to the development of transport routes that crossed its territories to link Western Europe, Levant and Asia. „International influences in the development of transport in Romania” examines three such cases in different historical periods: the XIV-XVI centuries’ trade routes, the development of the modern navigation in the Danube Delta in the XIX and XX centuries, and the present time development of transport infrastructure along the TEN-T corridors. In all cases diplomatic actions and/or international cooperation played an important role.

Key words: trade routes, the European Commission of the Danube, TEN-T corridors, international cooperation, transport infrastructure
